The Journey to the 2024 Annual Meeting Begins Now

Posted By: Cynthia Reinhart-King Annual Meeting, BMES News,

Greetings everyone!

We’re entering one of the most exciting and busiest times of the year as we begin preparations for the 2024 Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD, on October 23 - 26.

I want to take this opportunity to recognize this year’s Annual Meeting Co-Chairs, Warren Grayson, from Johns Hopkins University; Lijie Grace Zhang from The George Washington University; and Ramana Kumar Vinjamuri from the University of Maryland. Their leadership will pave the way toward an outstanding scientific program in the fall.

The Co-Chairs have chosen Synergizing Research and Cultural Excellence as the theme of the Annual Meeting, which explores how facilitating diverse perspectives strengthens biomedical research and innovation. The related sessions will emphasize the importance of inclusivity for achieving the highest standards of excellence in industry and academic research.

Because of the proximity of this year’s meeting location with so many government agencies, we are looking forward to presenting an exceptionally collaborative meeting featuring content and joint programming with these government groups. You won’t want to miss it.

I am also pleased to announce that renowned professor, researcher, and biomedical engineer Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic – a past recipient of the BMES Robert A. Pritzker Distinguished Lectureship Award – will give the opening plenary talk. You won’t want to miss our guest speaker on Wednesday, October 23, from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Her presentation will be on "Translational Studies of Engineered Human Tissue."

These are just a sampling of events, special sessions, and other activities we’re planning for this year’s meeting in Baltimore. All this is in addition to our regular scientific and engineering sessions.

You will soon begin receiving alerts on upcoming opportunities to participate in the Annual Meeting as abstract reviewers, and to submit your own research abstracts for the opportunity to present your work.

Again, I’m only skimming the surface of what’s in store.

We are working hard to ensure that BMES is the vital center of the biomedical engineering ecosystem for you, for industry, and for the profession. In the coming weeks, we’ll rollout out new membership benefits and exciting programming.

Stay tuned!
