Editor-in-Chief
About the Job

The Annals of Biomedical Engineering is one of the four Biomedical Engineering Society journals published by Springer-Nature. The term of the current Editor-in-Chief, Stefan Duma, is ending and the BMES Publications Board is launching a search for the next Editor-in-Chief. Under Duma’s successful leadership over seven years, the Journal has attracted a diverse set of articles from academia and industry and has achieved enviable success. The Annals is an interdisciplinary and international journal with the aim to highlight integrated approaches to the solutions of biological and biomedical problems.

Annals of Biomedical Engineering publishes original and review articles in the major fields of bioengineering and biomedical engineering. A major aim of bioengineering is to provide integrated approaches to the solutions of biological and biomedical problems. The philosophy is to provide engineering approaches to enhance the power of the scientific method, and to maintain a balance between experimental observation and quantitative analyses. Annals of Biomedical Engineering accepts for publication only full-length original research manuscripts and review articles. The journal routinely publishes special issues focused on major technologies in biomedical engineering.

The journal is currently publishing its 51st volume with 12 issues per volume. Over the past four years the journal has published an average of 50 articles per issue. The impact factor in 2022 was 3.8, with a five-year impact factor of 4.0. The journal is indexed in Pubmed, SCOPUS, SciSearch, and Journal Citation Reports.

The journal has 41 associate editors who are responsible for individual manuscript reviews. Associate editors are international and represent both industry and academia (engineers and clinicians). The Editor-in-Chief is assisted by an editorial assistant provided by Springer-Nature to manage the review process. The Editor-in-Chief also receives a stipend from the BMES.
