From the BMES President: Important BMES Deadlines in May

From the BMES President: Important BMES Deadlines in May
2:19

Hello Friends and BMES Colleagues!

Preparations for the fall’s Annual Meeting are very much underway. Our meeting Co-Chairs – Warren Grayson from Johns Hopkins, Ramana Kumar Vinjamuri from the University of Maryland, and Lijie Grace Zhang from George Washington – are excited to greet us in their backyard of Baltimore October 23 – 26 for what is shaping up as a very exciting event.

The Co-Chairs have already selected the 42 Track Chairs who will help guide the scientific and technical sessions. Note that we are extending the deadline to volunteer as an abstract reviewer until May 6. We encourage you to click here and submit your application if you are interested in becoming an important part of the meeting and helping us determine the best abstracts for our platform and poster sessions.

You may have noticed that this year we’ve rolled back many of our meeting deadlines, including the nominations for Society Awards, the 2024 Class of BMES Fellows, and governance elections. Please check your email and other BMES notices frequently so you don’t miss a thing.

The deadline to nominate Society Award recipients, click here, and to nominate this year’s BMES Fellows, click here, is May 30! Nominations for Society officers will open mid-May.

In addition to our scientific sessions, this year we are planning a special pre-meeting event at NIH headquarters; local tours of some of the region’s biotech companies; plus, outstanding special sessions, some of which will focus on FDA regulations and on industry. You can keep track of all the Annual Meeting activities, as we announce them, here on the weekly BMES Briefs and also on our website, and social posts.

Besides the proximity of Baltimore to leading federal agencies in our field, the area comprised of Baltimore, Frederick, Montgomery Country, Northern Virginia, and Washington D.C. was ranked last year as a Top 3 Biopharma Cluster by Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology. So, there are plenty of opportunities to expand your trip to the Annual Meeting.

If you haven’t done so already, I invite you to view our Save the Date video. Registration for the BMES 2024 Annual Meeting opens tomorrow!

See you in Baltimore!
