What will strike you first about this year’s conference is that we have added a full day of exciting programming that we think you will find significant.
In addition to our regular schedule, which includes excellent scientific podium sessions, posters, special sections, and lecturers – which this year includes Pritzker Award winner Linda Griffith, from MIT – we will open the conference this year hearing from renown speaker, cardiologist, and best-selling author Eric Topol, who recently release his new book, Super Agers.
We are also putting on three workshops this year: Fundamentals and Perspectives in Medical Product Regulation for Biomedical Engineers, which will earn you a BMES Certificate of Participation; Optimized Data-Driven AI for Biomedical Data Analysis, also earning you a BMES Certificate of Participation, and the third workshop on Science Communications and Policy.
We are also planning what promises to be an insightful and unique roundtable discussion featuring past winners of the prestigious BMES Robert A. Pritzker Distinguished Lecture Award. You will hear their perspectives on the state of biomedical engineering, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions. Immediately following this roundtable, you will have the opportunity to meet BME legend Shu Chien, one of the foremost pioneers and educators in biomedical engineering.
We are also planning two conference keynote events!
Rethinking the Grants Model: Embracing New Research Funding Opportunities is a session that’s expected to be one of the most timely and important discussions of the year. Panel members representing industry and philanthropy will share their insights on how to consider and solicit funding for research from channels outside federal grants.
In the second keynote event, The Impact of AI in Biomedical Engineering Innovation: A Conversation Among Clinicians and Biomedical Engineers, you’ll hear what some of the brightest minds in each field think about the present state and the future of artificial intelligence in healthcare applications and biomedical pedagogy.
To allocate time for the new programming, we have rescheduled some of the traditional programs you’ve come to expect, so please check the final schedule carefully. We are also planning a Career Fair this year. Finally, our popular hosted receptions and BMES Member Appreciation Night (aka “The Bash”) will occur over two nights (Thursday and Friday) this year at San Diego Bayfront Park, just outside our host hotel, the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel!
We’ll be announcing more details on all our programming over the summer, including a surprise visit from a special guest who is sure to make you laugh and relax at the same time.
