Welcome to the BMES Master’s in Biomedical Engineering (BME) Resource Repository, a central hub designed to support students and early-career professionals exploring graduate education in biomedical engineering.

Whether you are just beginning to consider a master’s degree or actively evaluating programs, this page brings together a wide range of resources to help you make informed decisions. Here you’ll find guidance on different types of BME master’s programs, funding opportunities, career outcomes, application strategies, and insights from both employers and graduate program leaders.

Our goal is to provide a “catch-all” resource that gathers useful information in one place, from articles and webinars to expert perspectives and practical decision frameworks, so you can better understand how a master’s degree might align with your career goals, financial considerations, and professional interests.

Use this repository to explore your options, compare pathways, and gain the context you need to choose the program that’s the right fit for you.

Webinar Series: The Pathway to a BME Master’s: Is It Right for You, How to Select a Program, and How to Pay for It?

The BME Master’s Programs Webinar Series is designed to help students and early career professionals make informed, intentional decisions about graduate education in biomedical engineering. Whether you are exploring professional master’s programs, research oriented MS pathways, or funding strategies, this series provides structured guidance grounded in real world experience.

About the Series

This three part webinar series provides neutral, structured guidance to help you evaluate:

  • Whether pursuing a master’s degree in biomedical engineering aligns with your career goals
  • Which type of program is the right fit for you
  • How to realistically finance a master’s degree

The series explicitly distinguishes between professional and research oriented master’s pathways, with particular emphasis on professional programs that are often less well understood.

Each webinar includes a practical decision tool developed by BMES to help you take actionable next steps.

Webinar 2

Professional Master’s Pathways in BME: Selecting the Right Program for You

April 14, 2026 | 2:00 – 3:00 PM ET

This webinar helps prospective graduate students and early-career professionals understand the spectrum of master’s degree pathways available in biomedical engineering / bioengineering — from large research universities to smaller institutions or primarily undergraduate institutions (PUIs); from traditional research-heavy MS to professional/industry-oriented MS; and newer or niche master’s tracks. Attendees will learn how to evaluate programs based on career goals, lifestyle, funding likelihood, program structure, and long-term objectives along with a structured decision framework to select the “right fit.”

Takeaways:

  • Key criteria to compare (curriculum, experiences, outcomes, location, cost)

  • A simple scoring/rating structure (weights are set by students)

  • Space to track conversations with program reps and current students
