LatinXinBME Symposium
Wednesday, October 21, 2026
Inspired by the 2026 BMES Annual Meeting theme “Engineers Empower Human Health,” the LatinXinBME 2026 Symposium is committed to expanding opportunities for transformative change in biomedical innovation by highlighting the contributions of a diverse community of scientists, engineers, trainees, and industry professionals. This year, the BMES Annual Meeting will be held in Orlando, Florida, home to a growing Latinx community within a state with the third-largest Latinx population in the nation, in addition to its proximity to many other cities with strong Latinx roots. This Special Session symposium will highlight research conducted by LatinXinBME members and present opportunities to network and build community within and outside the organization. The Symposium will begin with a keynote address by prominent researcher Dr. Carlos Rinaldi-Ramos, and a series of selected oral presentations from submitted abstracts. The scientific program will also include a poster session and a three-minute thesis competition in Spanish and Portuguese. The community portion of the event will include a panel discussion on “Cultural roots, scientific paths: how heritage shapes biomedical innovation in a constantly changing world”, featuring professionals from diverse backgrounds and career stages. Throughout the day, breakfast, lunch, and refreshments will be available for attendees. The LatinXinBME 2026 Symposium will provide an opportunity for researchers from diverse backgrounds to reflect how their personal journeys shape their scientific perspective and contributions to biomedical innovation. We invite attendees whose research and perspective makes an impact on empowering human health. We hope you will join us in this symposium to uplift diverse voices and network with scientists from backgrounds across the globe. -
