Call for CMBE Abstracts
Submission Deadline: August 4, 2026
General Submission Abstracts/Poster Abstracts
We invite Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering Special Interest Group (CMBE-SIG) members and experts from various disciplines to collaborate and brainstorm new ideas, and establish a foundation for systems bioengineering by submitting an abstract to present research in San Diego, California from January 3-7, 2027.
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE: August 4, 2026
Abstract Information
There are four categories of abstract submission. All abstracts will be considered for podium and poster presentations. Podium presentations will primarily consist of a prestigious lineup of keynote and invited speakers in addition to presentations by awardees of the Graduate Student Awards, Post Doc Fellow Awards, and Rising Star Awards. Additional presentations will be selected from general submissions abstracts.

Submission Format
General Abstracts
Submissions must contain the title, author names, author affiliations, and an abstract that is less than 250 words in a single pdf file. The name of the presenting author should be underlined in the abstract document. A select few general submission abstracts will be considered for podium presentations.

Graduate Student Travel Award
Eligibility: Applicants must be Graduate Students (PhD not awarded) at the time of submission. Submissions must contain the title, author names, author affiliations, and an abstract that is no more than 500 words. The inclusion of a figure demonstrating key results in the abstract is encouraged."

Post-doctoral Researcher Travel Award
Eligibility: Applicants must be Post-doctoral researchers (PhD awarded but not an independent PI) at the time of submission. Submissions must contain the title, author names, author affiliations, and an abstract that is no more than 500 words. The inclusion of a figure demonstrating key results in the abstract is encouraged."

Rising Star Award for Junior Faculty
Eligibility: Applicants must have had an independent lab for less than 6 years at the time of submission (typically Assistant Professor, or equivalent, rank). Rising star award submissions must contain the title, author names, author affiliations, and an abstract that is no more than one page in length. The inclusion of a figure demonstrating key results in the abstract is encouraged. Additionally, authors should supply CV (5-pages maximum) that includes dates of when the applicant started their independent research career and when they expect to go up for promotion. highlights their research accomplishments and previous contributions to the CMBE SIG and broader communities. Examples of prior involvement with CMBE include but not limited to attended past CMBE annual conference, attended past or will attend the upcoming CMBE session during BMES annual conferences, helped organize CMBE conferences, or volunteered to review abstracts to CMBE annual conference. Examples of supporting and promoting a vibrant and sustainable CMBE community include but are not limited to engagement with K-12 students, traditionally unreachable community to promote STEM education and research in CMBE.
