Seeking CMBE Editor-in-Chief

CALL FOR CANDIDATES:
Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering (CMBE)
Editor-in-Chief
About the Job

The Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering Journal is one of the four Biomedical Engineering Society journals published by Springer-Nature. The term of the current Editor-in-Chief, Michael King, is ending, and the BMES Publications Board is launching a search for the next Editor-in-Chief. Under King’s successful leadership over 11 years, the journal attracted a diverse set of articles from academia and industry and achieved enviable success.

CMBE publishes original research that advances the study and control of mechanical, chemical, and electrical processes of the cell. A key challenge in improving human health is to understand how cellular behavior arises from molecular-level interactions. The field of cellular and molecular bioengineering seeks to understand – so that we may ultimately control – the mechanical, chemical, and electrical processes of the cell.

The journal publishes experimental and theoretical studies that advance our understanding of (1) the biomechanics of cells, including their interaction with the extracellular environment, and of biomolecules, including proteins, lipids, polysaccharides, and nucleic acids; (2) the chemical thermodynamics, kinetics, and transport processes associated with biomolecular interactions and cellular processes; and (3) electrical processes that underlie cell behavior. In addition, an overarching aim is to integrate our understanding of mechanical, chemical, and electrical processes to better understand the integrated, systems nature of cellular processes.

The journal is currently publishing its 16th volume, with six issues per volume. Over the past four years, the journal published an average of 50 articles per year with an average acceptance rate of 33%. The impact factor in 2022 was 2.8, and 3.337 in 2021. The journal is indexed in Pubmed, SCOPUS, SciSearch, and Journal Citation Reports. More information about the journal and articles published can be found at https://www.springer.com/journal/12195.

The Editor-in-Chief receives a stipend from BMES and is assisted by an editorial assistant (provided by Springer-Nature) who manages the review process. The journal has 40 associate editors who are responsible for individual manuscript reviews. Associate editors are international and represent both industry and academia (engineers and clinicians).

About You

The new Editor-in-Chief will serve an initial three-year term, with the potential for a second three-year term. Any additional terms are at the discretion of the BMES Executive and Publications Boards.
