Undergraduate Research Abstracts
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Friday, August 5, 2022 at 12 p.m. (noon) ET

Undergraduate Research Abstracts Submission Window Closed!
Undergraduate Research abstracts are a special submission exclusively available to undergraduates. To be eligible, presenting authors must be enrolled in an undergraduate program during the Annual Meeting (October 2022). Those graduating before then (i.e., current seniors) should submit a late-breaking abstract, because, unlike in previous years, late-breaking abstract submissions are open to anyone interested in participating in the program. Undergraduates can submit to both, but the two submissions must differ.
Undergraduate Research abstracts will only qualify as a poster session. Therefore, no abstracts from this window will be oral presentations.
Not an undergrad? You can still submit an abstract! Visit our Late-breaking abstract info webpage for full details.

Please be sure to give yourself enough time to complete the entire submission process in our portal before the deadline, as we will be unable to grant extensions due to programmatic and system limitations.
Please be sure to read the "detailed submission information" section below in full for instructions on how to get started and reference them as you complete the submission process. Abstract selection for the BMES Annual Meeting is highly competitive. Due to this, we receive a high volume of submissions, so failure to follow instructions properly could result in disqualification — we don't want that happening to you!

PRESENTING AUTHOR REQUIREMENTS
POSTER PRESENTATION SESSION TIMESLOTS
General Polices
- Abstracts that do not follow the guidelines in the Abstract Template Guide (PDF) will not be considered for a poster presentation.
- To ensure proper formatting, please reference the "Formatting" section below.
- By submitting an abstract, you agree to register and attend BMES 2022 Annual Meeting if selected to present this October 12-15, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas.
- By clicking the "submit" button in the abstract portal, you indicate that you have completed your submission. The abstract will be marked "incomplete" if you exit before completing the process.
- You may log back into the abstract submission site to revise throughout the process, but please review carefully — no changes are permitted after the deadline.
- Abstract marked as "incomplete" after the submission deadline will not be considered.
Formatting
- Abstract submissions must:
- Be uploaded as a PDF file.
- Not exceed one page — including acknowledgments and references. Submission longer than one page will not be considered.
- When formatting your document:
- All margins should be at 0.75 (i.e., top, bottom, right, and left).
- Your title, limited to 100 characters including spaces, should be in title case (i.e., capitalize all non-minor words).
- If you choose to include graphics or tables:
- First, insert them within the PDF file you are uploading.
- Then, review your submission to confirm that the abstract upload has converted correctly.
Author Eligibility
- To include authors in your abstract, all authors and abstract submitters must have a member or non-member account in the BMES membership system.
- Please have all authors sign-up for a member or non-member account before submitting an abstract, so they can be included in the abstract submission.
- Once all authors have an account, you will need all author(s) information — including their email address(es) — to submit your abstract successfully.
- All authors must be manually entered on the Author page (even if they are listed on your uploaded abstract), or they will not be listed in the author index.
- Submissions do not require a full author list to be considered complete.
- If you'd like to add more authors, you can do so post-submission.
- We will provide steps on how to add authors once abstracts are approved.
- Due to the high number of applicants, we cannot add authors or re-order the listing in your submission after the deadline.
Presenting Author Requirements
- Each abstract submission may only list one presenting author.
- Only this person is permitted to present.
- As stated above, you will not be able to change your designated presenting author after the deadline, so please be sure this information is correct in your submission.
- This person will receive all communications about the abstract submission and presentation, so please be sure the email address is correct.
- If selected, the presenting author listed on your submission will be expected to register and attend the BMES Annual Meeting in person to present their findings.
- All presenting authors will be notified by email no later than Tuesday, August 23.
- All presenting authors must register to attend the in-person conference by Friday, August 26.
- The cost of your conference registration does not include the one-time abstract submission fee of $50.
