Accepted candidates will present a biosketch and poster outlining accomplishments, aspirations, and accolades.
Rising high school juniors and seniors are invited to showcase their biomedical engineering research, innovations, and original ideas at the BMES2026 High School Poster Expo, taking place Saturday, October 24, during the BMES Annual Meeting.
Selected students will have the opportunity to present their work to leaders in biomedical engineering, receive valuable feedback, connect with fellow students and professionals, and attend select scientific sessions throughout the meeting.

Begin the 2026 BMES Annual Meeting with an inspiring opening plenary featuring Kafui Dzirasa, M.D., Ph.D., neuroscientist, engineer, and psychiatrist at Duke University.
In his keynote, “Engineering the Brain to Prevent Psychiatric Illness,” Dr. Dzirasa will explore how engineering and neuroscience can work together to deepen our understanding of psychiatric illness and help advance new approaches to prevention.
The session will also feature a welcome from the 2026 Annual Meeting Co-Chairs: Dr. Jeannine Coburn, Worcester Polytechnic Institute; Dr. Gregg Duncan, University of Maryland; and Dr. Nathan Schiele, University of Idaho.

Play an important role in shaping the premier biomedical engineering event of the year by nominating yourself or someone you think would serve as a great Co-Chair for the 2028 Annual Meeting (October 4-7) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
To be eligible to serve as a Meeting Co-Chair, applicants must be:
Current BMES members. Students, postdoctoral fellows, and non-members are not eligible to serve in this role.
Applications must be submitted by a team of 2-3 members from different institutions or companies, each of whom must currently serve or have previously served as a BMES Annual Meeting Track Chair.
Teams must be comprised of 2-3 established leaders in the field who hold the rank of Associate Professor or higher, or an equivalent level of experience in teaching track faculty, industry or government.
Nominations are still open for the 2027 BMES CMBE Conference Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to the cellular and molecular bioengineering community.
The BMES Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering Special Interest Group (CMBE-SIG) brings together researchers from diverse scientific and clinical backgrounds who share a commitment to understanding how physical forces influence biological processes and translating discoveries into advances in human and veterinary medicine.

The CMBE Momentum Award recognizes a BMES-CMBE SIG member who is at the mid-career stage and has made a substantial impact on their field that is related to cellular and molecular bioengineering.
The BMES CMBE Shu Chien Achievement Award is the most prestigious honor bestowed by the BMES CMBE-SIG. This award recognizes an individual who has made exceptional contributions to the cellular and molecular bioengineering field.
Christopher Jacobs Award for Excellence in Leadership
The BMES CMBE Christopher Jacobs Award recognizes leadership excellence in the community. Leadership is broadly defined and includes efforts in education, service, and publication/ dissemination of knowledge related to the field.
Biomedical engineering is a diverse major which not only offers students opportunities to study various specialties, but also affords them multiple career options post-graduation. Coursework, while necessary to provide a uniform and strong academic foundation, can only cover so much material, therefore, offering real-world opportunities known as “experiential learning (EL)” that take place outside of the classroom can provide additional training and skill development. However, building this into the curriculum in a manner that not only keeps up with the rapidly developing field, but can also offer the wide range of experiences sought by BME students is a challenge in an already packed curriculum.
