High School Poster Competition
Application Deadline: Wednesday, August 9th, Noon ET
Each year, BMES hosts a High School Poster Competition, and we are now accepting applications for the 2023 BMES Annual Meeting in Seattle, WA!
This year, the competition will be separated into two tiers. Tier one will consist of the top 10 rated posters. Tier two will consist of honorable mention posters.
We encourage students to apply who are from the Seattle area, a BMES High School Student Chapters, or traditionally underrepresented backgrounds for the opportunity to present before leading BME experts who will judge the competition.

Who is Eligible to Apply?
We accept applications from high school students in their junior or senior year by the start of the 2023 Fall semester.
Why Should I Apply?
Students who are selected to compete will broaden their awareness in the field of biomedical engineering, attend cutting-edge keynote presentations, and bolster their collegiate applications with this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Participants will also have ample opportunities to connect with our conference attendees ranging from undergraduate students to post-docs, admissions directors at leading BME programs, and research and industry leaders.
When is the Application Deadline?
The application deadline is Wednesday, August 9th, Noon ET.
When will applicants be notified if they won?
Applicants will be notifed on or before Tuesday, September 5th, 2023.
What Counts as a Traditionally Underrepresented Background?
Groups identified as being underrepresented in science and engineering include Women, African Americans, Alaskan Natives, Hispanics, American Indians/Native Americans, and Pacific Islanders (Guam, Hawaii, and American Samoa).

Is There a Prize for Winning?
All those participating in the Top 10 competition will receive complimentary registration to the 2023 BMES Annual Meeting for themselves and their chaperones, a per diem for the day to cover dinner costs (breakfast/lunch included), as well as complimentary poster printing services. In addition, three winners will receive a cash prize for best-presented research.
Students participating in the Honorable Mention competition participants will receive a discounted rate of $100 to the 2023 BMES Annual Meeting for themselves and their chaperones, breakfast and lunch, poster printing services, and a trophy for best-presented research.
In addition, three winners will receive a cash prize for best-presented research:
- 1st place: $300
- 2nd place: $200
- 3rd place: $100
