Kick off BMES2026 on Wednesday, October 21, with the LatinXinBME Symposium, a full day dedicated to connection, professional development and community-building. This special ticketed event brings together biomedical engineering students, professionals and leaders to share experiences, build meaningful relationships and celebrate the contributions of the Latinx community in BME.

Applications for the Student & Postdoctoral Fellow Travel Awards will close on Monday, September 14. Recipients will be notified after the application deadline. These awards will support undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows by providing registration assistance and travel and lodging support to those presenting at the BMES 2026 Annual Meeting. We strongly encourage applications from individuals whose institutions provide fewer opportunities for professional development, mentoring, networking, graduate school, or industry recruitment opportunities. The travel awards are supported in part by an R13 conference grant from the NIH (NIH grant 1R13EB038105-01) and in part by a conference grant from NSF (NSF grant number 2628713).
Award Details:
Eligibility: undergraduate student, graduate student, or postdoctoral fellow at the time of application presenting at the BMES 2026 Annual Meeting.
Benefits: complimentary registration for the BMES Annual Meeting, funding to help cover travel and lodging expenses.
Applicants from institutions with fewer opportunities for professional advancement. mentoring, networking, or external recruitment are strongly encouraged to apply.
Are you a high school or undergraduate student presenting a poster at the 2026 BMES Annual Meeting? If your work focuses on developing or applying human-relevant, non-animal methodologies, such as organoids or organ-on-chip models, you could earn an official certificate and a cash prize of up to $350.

BMES will distribute to recruiters a comprehensive package with profiles of both teaching-focused and research-focused candidates. This is available only to those recruiters who complete our recruiter form by September 25.
One of the core challenges in biomedical engineering laboratory education is teaching the cognitive skills of experimental design and scientific reasoning, not just procedural methods. While virtual laboratory simulations overcome resource constraints of physical laboratory classes, their pedagogical implementation often lacks a guiding theoretical framework to explicitly target these higher-order thinking skills. Without a systematic approach to integrate technology, pedagogy, and content, the potential of these tools to develop technical competencies and problem-solving skills for biomedical engineers is not fully realized.
