BMES Diversity Lecture Moved to Thursday Plenary, Oct. 12 @ 10:15 am

Manu Platt will deliver the BMES Diversity Award Lecture at the Thursday, October 12 plenary session held at 10:15 am at the 2017 Annual Meeting in Phoenix
“We are excited to highlight Manu's activities and many contributions to our community with the opening plenary lecture,” said BMES President Lori Setton.

Platt is an engaging speaker and should be a familiar face to regular attendees of the BMES Annual Meeting. He is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech & Emory, a Georgia Research Alliance Distinguished Scholar, and Diversity Director for the Science and Technology Center on Emergent Behaviors of Integrated Cellular Systems.

His Thursday morning talk will address the fear of waiting for the perfect time to be impactful in diversity and inclusion. Platt will discuss the power and the payoff of being unapologetic about identity, and being intentional in diversifying the workforce now, and not waiting until it is safe.

Platt's talk will follow the BMES President's State of the Society presentation and brief award presentations for the Pritzker Award and Distinguished Service Award.
