2022 BMES Annual Meeting Special Session Request Window is Closed.

Meeting Theme: Embracing Inclusion to Advance Innovation in Healthcare and Education


The deadline has passed for any BMES Member, Special Interest Group (SIG), BME stakeholder, or scientific partner interested in holding a "Special Session" at the 2022 BMES Annual Meeting in San Antonio. The deadline was Thursday, April 28. 

Requirements: 
  • Must be a panel, workshop, speaker, competition, event, or symposia format with a topic intersected with BMES 2022 Annual Meeting and does not already fit within an existing track.
  • If accepted, participating organizers and speakers must register to attend the meeting in person. 
    • BMES does not provide funding to cover meeting registration, travel expenses, or hotel accommodations for organizers or speakers invited to participate in a Special Session.
Criteria and Consideration:
  • The topic should align with the meeting theme and be of broad interest to the BMES audience, including faculty, industry, and students.
    • Proposals that support the 2022 Meeting theme, " Embracing Inclusion to Advance Innovation in Healthcare and Education" will be given special consideration.
  • Proposals need to be relevant, well-developed, and provide a clear scientific or social impact to facilitate an engaging program.
    • Two or more special sessions that fit together may be combined and presented in one session, per BMES and Meeting Co-Chairs' discretion.
  • If your proposal requires invited speakers or is abstract driven and does not fall within an existing track, and is accepted, BMES will create a submission portal.

Evaluation Process
  • The Annual Meeting Co-Chairs, along with the BMES Director of Programs, will review all proposals, and if necessary, seek the counsel of the BMES Executive Committee, Board of Directors, President of the Board, etc. 
  • BMES Director of Programs will determine the date and time for approved special sessions based on meeting room availability.
    • Requests and preferences will be taken into account but cannot be guaranteed.

Details for Selected Sessions
  • Special Sessions do not include food and beverage events, nor do they include any session types that require additional funding such as prizes or awards.
  • Rooms will be equipped with standard AV (PC-compatible computer w/ USB port, LCD projector, screen, lectern, microphones, etc). 
  • Room seating can be set up in a number of ways including round-table, theater, panel, lab-table, high-top, etc
  • There are four presenting options for Special Sessions, and if accepted your session will be scheduled for one of the following slots on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday:
    • 90-minutes from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. (Thursday/Friday/Saturday)
    • 90-minutes from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Thursday/Friday)
    • 90-minutes from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Saturday)
    • 60-minutes from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Thursday/Friday)

Submission for a Special Session is not a guarantee of acceptance and we cannot, unfortunately, accept requests submitted after the deadline.
