A record number of researchers, scientists and students will present their work at the 2010 BMES Annual Meeting in Austin. The meeting is also on track to shatter previous records for overall attendance.

Free tables for BMES student chapters will be available for the first time at this year’s Annual Meeting in Austin. The tables will be in the convention center’s main hall where poster sessions will take place.
Research funding opportunity available from Defense Department
The research arm of the Defense Department is holding a series of workshops to discuss research funding opportunities that may be of interest to biomedical engineers and bioengineers. The program is through the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA. It is for DARPA's viral pathogen surveillance program known as "Prophecy." The project focuses the preemptive prediction of emerging viruses.

Biomedical Engineering Society launches new online publication: Biomedical Engineering News
Landover, MD, May 4, 2010--The Biomedical Engineering Society launched its new online newsletter Biomedical Engineering News today. The monthly publication will cover news about the Society, its chapters and the biomedical engineering industry.
BMES also added two new members to its headquarters' team recently: Doug Beizer and Lauren Kensky.
Doug assumes the newly created position of Communications Manager. Previously, Doug was a reporter at Federal Computer Week magazine where he covered emerging technology, health IT and social media. Doug also wrote the magazine's blog about Web 2.0 news and trends. Doug previously worked as a daily newspaper reporter in Norfolk, Va., and was an editor at PC Magazine in New York.
Doug's focus will be on content management of the new BMES website, the recently-launched Biomedical Engineering News (which replaces the current hard-copy bulletin), as well as launching and managing new social networking efforts and a BMES blog.

The other new member of the BMES headquarters team is Lauren Kensky. She will serve as BMES' administrative assistant/receptionist. She will provide important support for the Society's membership and student affairs directors and for the annual meeting. Lauren is a recent University of Maryland graduate with a degree in criminology and criminal justice.
