**Fellow Status is decided by the Awards Committee and Board of Directors. Those interested in Retired Membership must complete the Retired Membership Application and submit to lori@bmes.org. All applications must have documentation of retirement.

Membership Descriptions


CORRESPONDING
Applicants may not hold, nor be pursuing, an undergraduate or graduate degree in biomedical engineering or related sciences. They may not be employees of corporations engaged in BME and must not meet the criteria for any other category of BMES membership.

EARLY CAREER
Candidates having received a degree (undergraduate or graduate) in biomedical engineering or related science within 3 years after graduating.

FELLOW **
Fellow status may be awarded to Society members who have demonstrated exceptional achievement and experience in the field of biomedical engineering and a record of membership and participation in the Society. Learn more about becoming a Fellow. 


MEMBER
Individuals working or occupying positions in research, practice, or demonstrated professional interest in biomedical engineering, bioengineering or in a related engineering field.

RETIRED **
Fellows and Professional Members who have been members for more than five years may apply to the Society for Retired status at the time of retirement from active professional practice. 

STUDENT
Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in biomedical engineering or a related science. An expected date of graduation must be provided for your application to be considered.
