Research & Design Awards (Graduate & Undergraduate Extended Abstract)

BMES seeks the active participation of graduate and undergraduate biomedical engineering students in the Annual Meeting and offers encouragement and recognition for their academic achievements. This is the best opportunity for students to have their work noticed, presented, and published as they launch their careers.

How to Compete

Students competing for Undergraduate and Graduate Student Awards must submit an abstract at the time of the official abstract-submission deadline for the Annual Meeting and pay the abstract-submission fee.  The extended abstract submission opens June 1st and at that time the student must upload their extended abstract into the abstract-management online program, along with a letter of support from the scientific adviser or department chair certifying the originality of the student effort. Submission for the extended abstract opens June 1st and the deadline is June 14, 2011.

The BMES Awards Committee will select up to 5 graduate students on the basis of scientific merit, originality, and quality of written presentation. Up to 8 undergraduate students  will be selected on the basis of originality, significance, thoroughness of design analysis, and performance evaluation.

Undergraduate submission: 2 -3 pages, single space, (10-12 pont type size) one inch margins on all sides.  A letter of support from the scientific advisor or department chair certifying the originality of the student effort must be upload at the time of submission.

Graduate submission: 3 -4  pages, single space, (10-12 pont type size) one inch margins on all sides.  A letter of support from the scientific advisor or department chair certifying the originality of the student effort must be upload at the time of submission.

Student competing for Undergraudate or Graduate Awards must be BMES member in good standing, awardees are expected to participate in the Annual Meeting and present their work.  The awards will be presented to the awardees at the BMES Annual Business Meeting.

Graduate Student Awards

These awards include a certificate, a complimentary registration for the Annual Meeting, and a stipend of $500 to assist with travel expenses. If more than one author/winner is chosen, the stipend part of the award is shared among the winners.

Undergraduate Student Awards

These awards include a certificate, a complimentary registration for the Annual Meeting, and a stipend of $400 to assist with travel expenses. If more than one author/winner is chosen, the stipend part of the award is shared among the winners.

Student Travel Award

This award is given to a BMES student member in good standing, which he/she is also a member of a BMES Student Chapter in good standing.  The award consist in a complimentary registration and a check for $400 to help offset their expenses.  To apply please click here
