The purpose of these awards is to encourage the active participation
of graduate and undergraduate bioengineering students
in the Annual Fall Meeting of BMES and to provide encouragement
and recognition for their academic achievements.

1. Students competing for undergraduate Student Awards
will submit four copies of a 2-3 page extended abstract to the Awards Chair by June 1. Design descriptions
must be single-spaced (10-12 point type size) and printed on 8.5-x 11-inch white paper with one-inch
margins on all sides. The title of the Design description should appear at the top of the first page, followed
by the student name(s), affiliation(s), and mailing address. Skip one line before beginning the text of
the Design description. Each description should include the following subsections (some deviation in section
headings is allowable to accommodate individual projects): Summary, Description of Design Objective, Description,
Analysis and Performance Evaluation, Discussions, and References.
2. Students competing for graduate Student Awards will submit an abstract at the time
of the official abstract submission deadline for the Annual Fall Meeting, and pay the abstract submission
fee. In addition, graduate students will submit four copies of a 3-4 page extended abstract to the Awards
Chair by June 1. The title of the paper should appear at the top of the first page, followed by the author
name(s), affiliation(s), and mailing address. Skip one line before beginning the text of the abstract.

3. The BMES Awards Committee will select up to five graduate student winners on the basis of
scientific merit, originality, and quality of written presentation.
Up to five undergraduate student winners will be selected on the basis of originality, significance,
thoroughness of design analysis, and performance evaluation.
4. Each student submission requires a letter of support from the scientific advisor or department chair
certifying the originality of the student effort.
5. Applicants for student awards must be Student
Members of BMES.
6. Awardees are expected to participate in the Annual
Fall Meeting and present their work.
7. Awards will be presented at a ceremony during the BMES Business Meeting at the Annual Fall
Meeting.
