Schematic of a "biomimetic nano-scaffold" that combines novel nano-fibrous architecture
of a interconnected pore network with micro or nano spheres for controlled release
of regenerative factors. The design mimics collagen, offering a high surface area
for cell attachment and new matrix deposition, and an open structure that encourages
cell-cell, cell-nutrient, and cell-signal molecule interactions. The biological
functional moieties (gold stars) enhance surface properties of the scaffold for
tissue regeneration. The materials are biodegradable so that they will fade away
after serving as a template.
